Innovation is a necessity when it comes to surviving in any industry. The same goes for the golf ball industry with the top brands like Titleist, Callaway, Wilson and TaylorMade constantly working to invent new ways and technologies that can help golfers achieve the additional yards. One of the ways they have achieved to do this is through long distance golf balls.

Now, here is our list of the best golf balls for the longest distance.

The Best Golf Balls For The Longest Distance

1. Titleist Velocity Golf Balls

The Titleist brand is considered to be the best golf balls brand. The Titleist Velocity Golf Ball is their approach to the long distance golf ball and it is so far the best golf ball for distance.

The Titleist Velocity balls feature a patented technology known as LSX which they claim to be the “fastest solid core” of any golf ball on the market. This core increases the initial velocity allowing for better distance whilst keeping the short game playable.

Some of the best features of this golf ball is that it won’t spin on just about any shot that you hit. This makes it great for slicers and hookers as reduced spin eases mishits and makes them less punishable. It also has a durable cover which makes it long lasting.

It has a two piece design with a surlyn cover and when hit, it glides like it is hardly affected by the wind.

Additionally, the ball comes with 328 spherically-tiled dimples which help reduce the drag of the ball while in the air hence allowing high flight and long carry distance. It has a much higher spin which makes it a harder choice for beginners.

Though considered quite expensive, when you consider the distance you can get with it, the price is very reasonable. You can be sure the Titleist Velocity will have you beating out the competition, allowing you to reach the green a lot quicker than before.

2. Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls

The Titleist PRO V1 is considered to be one of the most preferred balls in the market. The golf ball has a softer feel due to its Surlyn cover hence allowing the golfer to have increased control. However this means that it is less durable. Its redeeming feature is that it can reach great distances due to the penetrating trajectory. At the moment, The Titleist PRO comes in two versions: There’s the original PRO V1 and PRO V1x. The difference between the two is that the Pro V1x uses a Thermoset Urethane cover instead of the traditional Surlyn cover.

Factors to consider when buying the best golf ball for long distance

Number of Layers

Golf balls are designed with distance in mind come in three types: one, two and three piece.

If your course might have a lot of hazards, one-piece golf balls are ideal. This is because they are cheap hence making them great for the budget golfer and one who loses balls easily and frequently. The downside is that they don’t offer as much distance as the two and three piece balls however you tend to get more than what you pay for, great distance on a budget.

Two piece golf balls have more solid core compared to the one piece golf ball. This is because they are usually manufactured from resin and are then coated in an an extremely hard material like Surlyn making it quite durable. This design combined with a high compression makes the ball fly through the air effortlessly offering a longer range. The downside of the high compression is that the balls are harder to control than one piece balls hence 2 piece balls are best suited to avid golfers and not beginners.

Though not as popular as the first two, three piece balls consist of a rubber core which is coated with harder rubber then coated in Surlyn. Out of the three, it is the softest and offers a huge amount of spin and control. The extra control makes the balls an ideal choice for beginners while the additional spin gives the ball much needed extra distance on the fairway.

There are three types of spin balls to consider Low, Medium and High spin balls. Low spin balls glide through the air in a straight line allowing for a great distance off a well hit drive. Low spin balls offer more roll on the fairway hence allowing you to maximize distance even if your swing speed is comparatively slower.

Mid- spin balls tend to be a great choice for many golfers. They are highly recommended for golfers who want extra distance off their shots but are not yet used to high spin balls. This is because of the balance they offer between spin and accuracy.

High spin balls are great for distance as they are designed to release backspin once they are hit into the air. They tend to be quite easy to control on the greens and can travel a big distance with the perfect swing. However, accuracy is not guaranteed.

When it comes to the distance, the variety of the compression of a golf ball matters. Most times, the compression has measure of deflection ranging from 40 and 200.

Balls rated at 200 do not deflect at all while those that are rated 40 will deflect at around 7mm. The lower the compression of the golf ball, the lower the pressure and this in turn not only makes the golf ball softer but also helps it glide through the air.

The downside of lower compression is that it does make the golf ball lighter which means that the balls can sometimes suffer in performance during extreme weather conditions like high winds or rain. Nevertheless, to achiever greater long distance, lower compression is ideal and the best golf balls tend to have a compression of around 50 or below.

There are two types of ways a golf ball should feel: hard and soft. Hard feel balls tend to hit hard and will travel a much a larger distance than soft feel balls. Soft balls are usually used by professionals as they offer much more control and it is easier to add a backspin to one’s swing. However, the downside, is that they don’t offer that much distance.

Professionals and experienced players tend to prefer hard balls as they allow for more backspin. Hard balls tend to travel longer distances than soft balls.

Dimple Patterns

Golf balls have dimple patters to let them travel farther. Hence, when looking for the best distance golf balls, it is important to choose one with an elaborate dimple pattern as they are key in boosting ball flight and distance.

Urethane Cover

Soft balls feature a Surlyn cover while urethane is hard and firm. Urethane covers add extra distance to every shot hence playing a huge role as to why hard balls are considered better long distance golf balls.
