The surface is 7% larger than previous year models which makes off-center hits more forgiving than previously. The weights are distributed low and in the back of the driver which have increased the MOI-number to over 5000 g/cm2
- Forgiving, even for beginners
- Cool design that differs from peers
- The big surface which adds to the confidence
- Creates high ball speed
- Good value for money for those serious to play golf

Cleveland Golf Men’s HB Launcher Driver
Loft: 9°, 10,5°, 12°
7 Iron Length: ”45,50
Standard Shaft: Miyazaki C. Kua 40
Handicap recommendation: 54-15
Club attribute: Game-Improvement/Forgiving
Pros:
Very forgiving and lots of added distance. Great beginners driver and a great bargain!
Cons:
Feels a little less premium than others but still a great driver!
Bottom line:
Cleveland has combined the earlier HiBore and Launcher models which here creates the Launcher HB. Cleveland HiBore-top technology lowes the center of mass in the club head which gives it a higher angle of impact and low spin for optimal ball flight. Launcher HB is not overly designed or has an adjustable loft or movable weights but here simplicity is key and it does deliver length, forgiveness, and precision which makes life (golf) easier for the golfer.
Cup-Face, Launcher Cup Face adds to a higher COR value on a larger part of the surface and gives a more consequent ball speed and increased distance.
Increased ball speed, a unique widespread sweet spot over the entire surface gives the ball high ball speed even with toe- and heel shots.
Ultra light hosel, a new lightweight hosel saves up to 15 grams which can be used for optimal placement of the center of mass, far back and far down.
- A great bargain for beginners or average golfers.
- Not overpaying for adjustable weights or lofts
- Cleveland delivers in the forgiveness area
- Not a huge initial investment which makes it easier if you find something new further down
- Easy to hit
Wilson Staff C-300 Driver
Loft: 9, 10,5, 12 +-3°
Length: ”45,5
Standard Shaft: Fujikura Speeder Pro 58
Standard Grip: Lamkin Crossline 2
Handicap recommendation: 54-15
Club attribute: Precision and control with a touch of forgiveness
Pros:
Great driver if you are serious about your golf. Great look, does not have to be replaced in a long time.
Cons:
Maybe a little more difficult than the very begínners drivers
Bottom line:
A revolutionary new driver with plenty of power, feel and precision. Power Holes in the club head generates explosive distance over the entire surface by letting it bend more on impact. Larger bend gives higher ball speed which in turn results in longer drives.
This driver is not necessary ultra forgiving, even though it have forgiving touches, but the control and sound is just great. It is just as good for a beginner who wants to take golf seriously but also intermediate golfers who is looking for a new investment.
Fast Fit Technology 3.0, the advanced loft adapter gives you the possibility to easy and quickly adjust the driver to your preferred loft and ball flight.
- Great if you intend to play a lot of golf and improve quickly
- Gives great control and precision
- Great for adjustability both with weights and loft

Ping G400 MAX Driver
Loft: 9, 10,5 +-1°
Length: ”45,75
Standard Shaft: Ping Alta CB
Standard Grip: Golf Pride 360 Tour Velvet
Handicap recommendation: 54-15
Club attribute: Forgiveness, design, and explosivity
Pros:
Definitely the cleanest and most designed driver on this list
Cons:
Maybe a little bit more demanding than other beginner drivers
Bottom line:
Ping makes it onto this list which is a pleasant addition. Ping is flying somewhat under the radar of the more known brand such as Titleist, Taylor Made and Callaway. Ping is a great provider of Golf Gear and really everything the put on market has both a premium touch to it as well as a great feel.
Pings advanced turbos on the top crown together with the Vortex Technology is there in order to reduce the air resistance which gives both a higher club- and ball speed but also more distance. The bottom surface is provided with a Tungsten-weight that optimizes the placement of the center of mass and gives a great resistance to twists on impact.
The loft is adjustable in a total of 5 positions, +1° to–1°.
Bigger profile, G400 Max Driver has a deeper profile with a larger 460cc club head. Thanks to the Dragonfly-technology the center of mass is adjustable lower for a higher twistresistance which adds a great deal of forgiveness. The text on the top of the crown and the “infinity” cutaway is very pleasing view when addressing the ball.
MOI at a Max, thanks to the super-thin forged club face and the resistance to twists the driver really adds to forgiveness with off-center hits. This will, all else equal, make you hit more greens and enjoy your rounds of golf just a little bit more.
Satisfactory sound, research, and data simulation in combination with music theory inspired Pings engineers to patent a rib architecture that retunes the frequencies to produce a deeper, but clearer sound at the same time as the feel of impact is increased. This is a great feature!
- A real premium feel without adding too much on price
- Great design, sound, and everything
- Forgiveness and easy to swing with great technology
- Ping is flying under the radar but provide great Drivers!

Best Driver for you as a Beginner?
It’s hard to say. Often, what you pay is what you get. Of course, it’s like when you buy an Apple computer.
It may be better than it peers in some ways but you do pay for the brand. If you feel that you will really excel in golf, you should invest enough money so that you do not have to replace it anytime soon.
Looks and design. The design and appearance of your golf clubs are more important than you might think! It adds confidence, it reduces the risk of you wanting to replace them prematurely and it’s always fun to match your driver with your irons, hybrids etc.
Too advanced clubs? A lot of new golfers make the mistake of buying a driver that is too advanced and too difficult to handle. This will only hurt your progress and make you resent playing golf.
Get a nice and big driver to start off with, and then continue on to a more demanding but one with more control when you feel ready!
Buying a used driver? Only if it is not too old and in good condition! We would not recommend buying a driver that is 3-4 years or older. Technology moves really quickly and a used driver will be worned out.
Re-use old clubs? If you are returning to golf or gets to inherit your dad’s old clubs, you should make sure what type of clubs they are!
We see a lot of players using old or inherent clubs that are way too difficult for beginners and then wonder why their game is not improving.
A Complete Review for the Best Driver for Beginners 2019
Q&A – Know This Before you Buy your first Driver
What Driver size should I look for and what does 460cc mean?
Nowadays, almost every driver is 460 cc. Before, it was way more common to have smaller drivers. The 460cc is the volume that indicates the size of the club head.
Drivers being bigger makes them easier to hit and gives them a larger club face which really adds to the forgiveness. This is suiting since the goal with the driver is to hit it as far and straight as possible.
When it comes to material, a club head is usually made out of titanium or col fiber.
The biggest advantage of this is that it makes the clubs lighter and easier to use. That’s why you should always look not to buy a driver made out of steel.
What does Driver Draw, Fade, Offset and Neutral mean?
It is not uncommon nowadays that you buy a driver that is thought to give you a certain ball flight. They should either aid in giving the desired ball flight or should they aid with a certain problem. A neutral club gives you more possibility to control the drives yourself.
The most common mistake of a golf drive is the slice which we have written an article about here. Even though we much more prefer you to try to fix your slice by practicing, a certain driver can fix that problem for you.
To aid with a slice, extra weights are added to the heel of the driver which makes the club face to be more closed on impact and preventing a slice.
Why are there different forms of the driver?
A couple of years ago, Nike created a club that varied a little from the classic round driver club head. It was instead squared.
The idea behind it is that you move the weights further to the sides in order to distribute the weights behind the surface more evenly.
This, in turn, makes the club more resistant to twisting or rotating when a ball is not hit perfectly on the sweet spot and the ball goes straighter on miss-hits.
Another pro with squared clubs is that a golfer can easier visualize the trajectory line of the shot, which maybe can be a bit more difficult to do with a rounded driver.
What driver you will buy is completely up to you, but a rounded driver is way more common and since most of them are 460cc nowadays we do not think it is that much of a benefit with a square driver.
What loft should I have on my driver?
This is a very classic question to take into consideration. The difference is pretty significant if you hit a driver with 8 degrees or a driver with 13 degrees. A fairway wood is usually around 13-15 degrees.
Needless to say, the driver with 8 degrees will have a lower ball flight and less spin but may be harder to hit than the one with 13 degrees and vice versa. (All else equal).
A higher loft is preferred for beginners and maybe juniors/seniors and when you improve you might wanna lower the loft to hit longer drives.
More things factor in, such as your swing path, how high/low you tee your balls and more.
If you want to have a higher ball flight with a little bit more control, we suggest that you increase the loft of your driver, at least in the beginning.
